I scouted a few different places for Martial Arts when I was looking to put my son in at 4 years old. I was considering different disciplines; everything from Karate, Kung-fu, Jiu Jitsu, and Judo. Excel had very competitive pricing and it looked very suitable for introductory MA, allowing for different disciplines to be taught, without being overly traditional. We started off at just one day a week to see if he would like it. He now goes 3 days a week, has been in a tournament, and just loves going. He has never once yet told me he didn't feel like going.

Excel Martial Arts is fantastic! The instructors are highly skilled and create a welcoming environment for all students. Classes are well-structured, emphasizing both physical techniques and mental discipline. The facility is clean and well-equipped, and scheduling is flexible. Whether you're a beginner or advanced student, Excel Martial Arts offers excellent training and an amazing community. Highly recommended!

Love this gym so much! Mr. Bryan Janzen is an absolutely incredible instructor, mentor and martial artist. I trained with him for over 10 years starting from a white belt when I was 9 years old, all the way to a fourth degree black belt which he has helped and supported me along the entire way. I could not recommend Mr. Bryan Janzen and Excel Martial Arts enough!!! They are hands down the best!

My son has been going to EMA for 2 years - started in their Little Heroes and still enjoy attending their Intermediate (aka their big kid) classes. They have great instructors that make the classes fun. They are awesome and patient with kids.

EMA was the best thing that happened for my family. It’s been a huge part of my boys lives for years. Edmonton is so lucky to have this amazing gym open in their community. Run don’t walk to sign your kids up for this amazing program, you won’t regret it.

I’ve know Mr. J since 2010. I used to train at a gym in North Vancouver that was closing so while they were figuring out what they wanted to do, I continued my training at the Coquitlam location, which coincidentally was Bryan’s location. I fit in immediately and I decided I would continue to train in his gym, making the 40 minute drive. The reason I did this is because he has a unique ability to make a person feel important and welcome. I now consider Bryan a very dear personal friend. Me and my family are now moving away from the coast and we are most likely moving to Edmonton and Bryan’s gym is definitely a small reason why we are moving to that area. If I could give more stars I would but unfortunately google only has 5 stars to give out. He absolutely has one of the best gym environments and I will continue my training with my children once we move our family to the area. A must try!!!!

Best experience ever!! The staff are so kind and really helped me and others improve ourselves and become leaders. As well as give us a home and a sense of belonging.

My first thought is - Edmonton is very lucky having EMA school with Mr.Janzen as an instructor. I brought my son to EMA more than 10 years ago, then I joined myself. I can tell how special is the vibe of the classes. The environment is very friendly and professional. The program built by efforts of specialists and very talented people, and it advances more and more with years of experience. The impact on students is big, I saw so many examples of personal transformations among them, and this is so inspirational.

We have been with Excel for approximately four years. Best decision we’ve ever made to supplement the kids’ physical activity.
Our four littles (ranging from 12 to 4 years old) couldn’t be more different from one another yet they all get something they need and love out of MMA with Excel.
If you’ve got a kid that needs practice focusing and a place to channel those wiggles and build friendships (Our 3rd son), this is perfect. If you’ve got a highly competitive, super physical/competitive kiddo who can get a bit hot under the collar but thrives on goal setting (our 2nd son) this is perfect. If you have a kid who’s learning to cope with sensory challenges, needs support improving proprioception but loves to conquer new challenges (our first son-proudly Autistic/GAD/ADHD), this is perfect. If you’ve got a little bubbly princess who’s also a bit of a thrill-seeking badass (our 4th child and only daughter), this is perfect. Highly recommend checking out Excel! 😍🥰

Excel Martial Arts is amazing. Staff are extremely friendly and approachable and the instructors are always willing to answer questions. My son is starting his second year in the after school program and has also attended evening classes, camps, movie nights and a tournament. He's learned an incredible amount of self-discipline and that he is capable of amazing things when he puts his mind to it. Excel makes learning all of these things fun for kids, builds their confidence and also teaches them that they don't have to be the best at everything to be proud of their accomplishments. I would recommend Excel to any parent.

I’m not sure I have enough words to describe how incredible the family at Excel Martial Arts is. Our journey started when my son came home from school (around grade 2) just raving about how much fun he had when EMA came in for gym session. He told us he wanted to join….so off we went to sign up for regular classes.

7 years later, he has earned his second degree black belt, is in the instructor academy level 2 program and a paid junior instructor moving up the ranks. He has enjoyed participating in tournament and spends his spare time training whenever he can….which is 4-5 days a week. 🤣🤣

The leadership from the top down is amazing, they really do go out of their way to ensure students are the best version of themselves.

Edmonton, you guys are in for a treat, did I mention community involvement? Need a fundraising host? Make sure you reach out. Movie nights are super popular with school PAC’s and various community groups (plus parents get a night out).
